Crossing the globe

海角社区app脮s success on the national cross country circuit is proven with outstanding individual and team performances year after year under the guidance of head coach, Dan Hennigar. Now, the Tigers are about to test themselves against the best in the world.

Recently, Canada脮s national sport body, Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) announced the roster heading to Algiers, Algeria for the 15th World University Cross Country championship held March 24, 2006. Making the cut for the Tigers is Paul Chafe, a CIS bronze medallist and two-time CIS all-Canadian and conference MVP; Janice Ashworth, a three-time silver medallist and member of last season脮s gold-medal-winning team who is also a three-time all-Canadian and former rookie of the year; and head coach Dan Hennigar who has brought the Tigers program to the forefront of Canadian competition following a successful career as an athlete.

The international event is similar to Canada脮s championship with both an individual and team prize. Both the men脮s and women脮s races are run separately with a maximum of six competitors per country. The team classification is also split by gender and each country脮s top four finishers contribute to the team score.

海角社区app University脮s Department of Athletics boasts 14 varsity teams; men脮s and women脮s contingents in basketball, cross country, hockey, soccer, swimming, track and field and volleyball. Last season generated impressive results for our over 300 athletes, including 75 AUS all-stars, 73 academic all-Canadians, 16 all-Canadians, eight AUS championships, eight AUS MVPs, four CIS individual gold medals and one CIS team gold medal. Also, 海角社区app脮s former track and field phenom, Adrienne Power, was the first-ever athlete from the Atlantic conference to win the overall CIS female athlete of the year award.
